Bob's Burgers Season 9, Episode 20 Review - The Ice Cream Mile Brass Bonanza | yahoo201027's Bob's Burgers Reviews.
Only three episodes remain, oop, I mean two episodes remain now left in the season and well…talk about a brass bonanza of an episode we got here and yeah, yeah, yap it up Carolina. I see that you’re about to make the hockey world you bitch…COME TO THEIR GAMES!!! Anyway, in this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers, the Belcher kids and their friends, mostly Louise, Rudy, Gene, Alex, and Courtney provide a plan to escape the dreaded mandatory run day while Bob, Linda, and Teddy try to score some tickets to an event that Bob likes in my spoilerific review of the twentieth, yes twentieth, episode of Season Nine of the show, titled “The Gene Mile”.
Oh that dreaded Mile Day, it’s fair to say that everyone around the world pretty much want that day banned from schoolgrounds whenever it was brought up, mostly by surprise, by the administrators. And now, it’s the students at Wagstaff who will be taking the event from hell but it looks like Louise, Gene, Rudy, Courtney, and Alex ain’t gonna partake in that as they prepare to sneak out to get some free ice cream. Leaving Tina and Jimmy Jr to do their thing having a nice, little competition following not accepting her offer yet again…calm down man. Calm down. Only two more episodes until we get a Summer break.
So yeah, this was an interesting, if not, a good episode and again, not in a sarcastic manner referring to what I’m about to say with this. And apparently, both plots in this episode seems rather interesting, if not, good and enjoyable to say the least. Even though there has to be some flaws in the way. Again, not all episodes are perfect. There has to be some flaws that might throw a wrench to the whole experience. But this was a good main plot, breaking it into three as the whole mile takes place whether if it’s the kids sneaking out to get some ice cream, Gene experiencing hell in doing a mile after being fallen behind on his way with them to get some ice cream, and of course, the whole thing with Tina and Jimmy Jr having a friendly competition after Jimmy Jr refuses to run a mile with Tina thus having her competitive side to be released from it’s cage. So despite the flaw in the form of the direction and whatnot, this was an interesting main plot for the episode.
And the same goes for the subplot with Bob trying to get some tickets for another Cake event. Yes, that same Cake back in Season 2 that Bob didn’t even care about it but then became a fan in a snap. Yeah, trying to score some tickets with Linda and Teddy’s help and of course, Teddy decided to mess things up and the thing that sold me with the subplot from, let’s face it, the subplots for this season with the exception of “Roller? I Hardly Know Her!” is pretty much on the scale from trash to meh, this episode is Bob finally calling Teddy out for messing his experience. It’s like this season alone, from taking care of a baby rat to him losing his groove when it comes to flipping burgers, bad things happen to Bob and everything points to Teddy. Like he wants to murder the guy over all of this and that gave me a chuckle. So there’s that. Don’t worry, everything got resolved after this episode.
Oh the dreaded mile day, like standardized testing, you’re pretty much the bane of everyone in the school grounds. Pretty sure everyone when watching this episode got flashbacks from when they have to do their mile. Me included because let’s face it, it is not a good experience when doing that. And it looks like it’s the students over at Wagstaff and the Belcher kids who got a turn this time on doing the mile when both Mr. Frond and Coach Blevins announced that everyone from Grades 4-8 will have to run a mile around the school and let’s face it, everyone don’t want to do it but it’s freaking mandatory and you can’t escape it from having to run a goddamn mile where within the first few minutes or the first few blocks and you begin to feel your legs starting to get numb and about to be out of breath. The whole mile thing, again, people when watching this episode pretty much got flashbacks to when they have to do their mile to the point where they have post traumatic stress over it and not wanting to do it all again like it’s a Vietnam flashback. Mental health is no laughing matter, peoples. It is not a laughing matter. And so does people suffering through running a mile.
The Belcher kids have their own thoughts and opinions when it comes to finding out that they have to run a freaking mile and we begin with both Louise and Rudy after finding out that they have to do the whole thing.
Yeah, they are upset over that and looking at their faces and attitude, they don’t want to do the whole thing. Louise don’t want to do it because let’s face it, Louise would like skip out or rather commit a crime than doing a freaking mile. She don’t want to do it because of her legs and let’s face it, a small child doing a mile and with running would be considered child abuse. Oh but it’s not just Louise who don’t want to do a mile, here enter Rudy. Oh poor, poor Rudy. This season alone, this poor boy has been dealt with a lot of stuff from taking out sawdust from the woodchuck to being pelted by snowballs by Logan and his merry men of assholes, can someone…for the love of dear Christ, protect this boy. He’s about to run a mile and with him having asthma, it’s pretty much a death sentence for the guy as he takes a puff of air from his inhaler and even asks Louise if she wants some air from the inhaler. Friendship and possible lovers goals everyone. You can’t beat that...well, until we get to the other contender in this episode. But for now, let’s head down to Tina.
Tina doesn’t mind doing the whole mile thing, even though she would be in the same group who don’t want to do the whole thing, but there has to be one thing that keeps Tina from evading the event and of course, fingers points to Jimmy Jr. Tina asks Jimmy Jr if he can run with her for this year’s mile race. Jimmy Jr then decided to stomp it while at the same time, don’t want a repeat of what happened with the goose episode and get into Tina’s bad side and thinks that they could hang out after they are done with their mile. But it looks like good ‘ol J-ju has accidentally broke the locks to Tina’s completive side and released the beast and thus, we have ourselves a rivalry. You think that this little rivalry is going to make Jimmy Jr eat his own words and butt for not accepting Tina’s offer, you do realize that it’s Jimmy Jr. His butt is pretty much Tina’s kryptonite. She’s not going to get through the first moments of the mile and might as well throw in the towel. But uh…don’t call Tina out. Just don’t call her out. You do not want to get Tina’s bad side when competing with her. She will fucking murder you.
And then we get to Gene and Alex talking about the mile and hoping for a way to not do a mile since their countless attempts to evade doing anything physical with fake doctor notes pretty much fell flat to it’s face and hoping to get out again and thinking about doing another doctor note excuse to get them out from doing the mile but it looks like that’s not possible this time around as Alex stated that Blevins is now beginning to think that Dr. Good-doctor isn’t an actual doctor, meaning the he’s now to the assumption that they’re not going to let them sit this one out and going to make them do psychical activities, making up for them missing out, and of course, gonna hold their grades accountable. So they are now at the point where they don’t have an option left in the cards so unless faking an injury or hoping for an appointment would be consider a miracle for the two, looks like it’s the mile it is for the two best friends. Oh you think you’re tired over me wanting to talk Gene and Alex and talk about how their friendship is wonderful and shipping these two like it’s the freaking status quo in the pairing department? Bitch, this is my page. And I can talk whatever I like until I get demonetized. While everyone is talking and worried about the upcoming mile run for the school...
Courtney enters the ring and tells Gene, Alex, Louise, Rudy, and Tina all happy despite that she has to do a mile as well though anyone could see that Courtney would rather not do the mile as the same as everyone mostly because her heart condition and not use as an excuse to make people peeved off because she can but, again, not a doctor, like Rudy, it would possibly kill her. Or at least that what I thought when talking to a few people over at the Discord. So Courtney seems happy despite that she has to run in the upcoming mile that after all the thing, the war to be over with, that she, of course, inviting the five, to get some ice cream for free. Yep, according to Courtney, free ice cream. Free Ice Cream Day falls on the same day as the kids prepare to run a mile around the school and if you think that anyone would be happy over that, the Belcher kids, mostly Gene and Louise because Tina is busy getting ready to pummel Jimmy Jr, tells what happened last year.
So Gene and Louise tells what happened last year to Courtney, Alex, and Rudy that they leave school for the day and head on down to the ice cream shop but once arriving to place to get some free ice cream, they endure a very long line to the shop and once their turn arrive, almost every flavor in each tub ran out except for one flavor left remain in the open, rum raisin. Oh sweet god, the horror. That’s how Black Friday shoppers deal with every freaking year and although I don’t work in retail, the consumers are pretty much like a pack of rabid dogs and anything they can see, head out and reach for it and for course, rabid dogs, they fight it out. Or a better metaphor for use in this one, think of it like trying to buy something online like for example, on Amazon Prime Day, and the item that you wanted to get is on the list and feel like this is your chance to get it and wanting to beat the rush before it’s out of stock but once you made to the page, it’s already out of stock. That or the day is already over with because reasons on a thing called life. That works too.
Gene consist that the only way to avoid the long line come Ice Cream Day and the Day of the Mile would be to head out during the school hours, while the whole mile thing pan out, in which he stated that it would be massively impossible to do so. But thanks to what Gene said about heading out during the school hours gave Louise an idea being brought out as she lay out the plan with marker and paper and showing how the plan will be executed to Gene, Rudy, Alex, and Courtney on how they are going to split away from the rest of the students on the day of the mile and heading down to the ice cream shop that they’re going to do the mile, for a short amount of time, but once arriving to the first corner, they get their bikes and ride for a few blocks to get some ice cream, eat the thing, and arrive back before the day’s been concluded. It seems to be a good plan coming from Louise but both Courtney and Alex sensed that there’s a little flaw in the plan when Courtney stated that there isn’t enough time to do all of that and Alex also stated that, probably filling in for the flaw, said that some eighth grader did the mile in like less than seven minutes. Seven minutes. Pretty sure that guy or girl may have landed a spot for the upcoming Olympics for track and field. Or probably training for it. So Louise kind of see where both Courtney and Alex are going with this and decided that they’ll be in the back of the crowd and decided to target the slowest student in the schoolgrounds when doing the marathon in a student named Large Tommy. Using him to kill some time for at least twenty minutes to kill some time to and from the ice cream shop.
But Alex sensed up another flaw in the plan and that’s in the whole “You’ll never know” category because although Large Tommy is the slowest out of the bunch of students, slowest other than himself and Gene, no disrespect, there might be a chance that things would be different this time around and that of course, would possibly throw a wrench into the plan in general. And that’s where Courtney decided to provide some assistance to the whole thing when she brought out her phone, yeah, other than Tammy in the Belcher kids’ little pack, Courtney is the second person to have her own phone, oh god, like imagine if Gene gets a phone, if the family have enough money for the kids to have phones of their own, and then Courtney would be marching in and asks Gene, pressuring him or not, to add her to his contacts. Like imagine that in your heads. Courtney pulled out her phone and mention that she has a tracking app for her cat whenever the cat gets lost to track Large Tommy so he don’t wander off and for them to not get caught and with that, it looks like the plan will be going in full effect come mile day. Oh and Tina decline on the whole free ice cream escape thing since of course, ready to kick some Jimmy Jr butt on the sidewalk. So uh…you do you girl. You do you.
Onto the next day, as in Mile Day/Ice Cream Freebie Day where we see both Louise and Gene riding on their bikes as they are preparing to hid them for the plan to escape is about to be set in motion. And unless you didn’t know, yes, Louise did get a new bike. And yes, she’s getting the hang of it when riding it. If you’re new to this and found this review, what are you doing here? Go watch that episode and come back here. If you are already caught up, then here’s a little recap on that particular episode with that particular moment. Might was as well treat that moment in the same category as Avengers: Endgame, don’t spoil the damn thing.
So in the Season 8 episode, “As I Walk Through the Alley of the Shadow of Ramps”, Twitter should really begin expanding the 280 limit to a even higher character count to like let’s say, about 500 that’s sound about right, in that episode as the Belcher kids enjoy their bike ride in the alley where they encounter a food truck lady, in which Louise gotten into her nerves because it’s their alleyway and she can’t set up shop. Well, those two having an argument resulted in Louise’s tricycle, nicknamed the “green machine” by her, got run over and destroyed. Don’t worry, Louise did not get run over. Well after settling her dispute and calling it a day, Louise needs a new bike and of course, need to learn how to ride one. Then enter the bike lesson with Bob and thus, here we are with Louise riding on her new bike, which I think she named it, “green machine mark II”.
As both her and Gene meet up with Rudy and Alex with their bikes, and of course, Courtney coming in with her bike when ringing her bell, they begin to place their bikes behind the bushes as they remember the game plan just as they about to endure the dreaded mile to have that cut short to they can have themselves a little prison break to the ice cream shop but just as everyone begins to head out, Alex on the other hand, begins to have second thoughts on the whole ordeal and begins to feel scared over the whole running away from the schoolgrounds and not wanting to get caught. Dude, you once ran away from your home during a sleepover and drag your friend along for the ride. You planned that for months despite that it has fallen flat on it’s fa…okay, I can possibly see your point. So Gene decided to help Alex by burying his fear and don’t want him to be the person responsible for costing them their mission. Again since the Roller episode and what I said in my review of that episode, I really adore their friendship. Because they look out for each other. Gene’s worried for Alex over him fearing that the plan is going to fall apart quickly and don’t want the blame to go onto him. He can’t have a Cody Parkey moment went doink on the mission. He got to be on the look out for his best buddy. And of course, the two agree to hug it out a la when they made up in Roller.
And with that, I think that hug just stopped a war from brewing. Man, what is Season Nine doing to me with these two? It’s wild. These two, next to Rudy and Louise, favorite friendships. Also ship…fight me, I don’t care. I’ll take the whole family on; I really don’t care. Oh and also…
GAC Pack hug. Nice to see these three in play since the end of the Roller episode and although we didn’t get a full on episode with Gene, Alex, and Courtney in massive play, this seems more in the line of, “Was hoping for them to be in massive play and see how their friendship play out but uh, you know what, it was short but I’ll take it.” Season 10, make their friendship worth it.
Oh and Rudy also joined in and make it a four way and also wanting Louise to join in but Louise denied the request mostly because she is not a hugger as we now switch over to them and the students as everyone are preparing to do their mile.
Yeah, we see everyone, well, almost everyone in that screencap. You see both Tammy and Jocelyn in the background. Tammy in the background is rather odd but Jocelyn on the other hand, taking it like a champ when it comes to being on the background. She’s pretty much a cardboard box as of this point. Henry also there, just putting it out there. We don’t see Andy and Ollie in the crowd. Neither does Darryl and he’s, no offense to my other boy here, not the psychical type. Might as well bring him along for the ride with the ice cream thing. I don’t know, something to give this boy some screen time. Come on people. And also, Zeke not there as well. I think they’re saving him for the upcoming season finale since the screencaps for that was released weeks ago. Also missing from the episode and she was in the script cover but not appeared in this episode.
Talking about Chloe Barbash. I think she was written off. Either they forgot add her in, was supposed to be in it but cut out due to time or possibly because her voice actress, Stephanie Beatriz, turned down the role. Not hoping in the line of what FOX did last year when they cancelled Brooklyn Nine-Nine. That’s not a possible factor in that. If Chloe were to be in this episode, imagine she overheard the plan of bailing out mile day from Louise, Gene, Alex, Courtney, and Rudy and once the kids done hid their bikes and marching their way to the school and Chloe stops them once arriving to the steps. Telling that she overheard what they are doing and that she wants in. Louise and the others, mostly Louise, tells her to fuck off but then Chloe begins to do something drastic that could throw a massive wrench to their plan. She’s planning on tattle to Mr. Frond. She’s gonna blackmail the five. She’s gonna prevent them from getting their ice cream unless she either tags along with them or should probably bring her a scoop once coming back. So that’s what I can see that if Chloe were to be written on to the episode.
Tina and Jimmy Jr as they are prepare to set their marks, looks like their rivalry begins to take center stage with Tina going on towards Jimmy Jr’s face and of course, calling him out as the rest of the kids are ready to set their plan into motion by putting the tracker onto Large Tommy’s backpack. And so, the race begins for everyone as we glance over Tina and Jimmy Jr and can we talk about this.
Yeah, the running. Jimmy Jr’s run. What the hell was that? Is he really running or is he trying to learn the moves in the Gene School of Prancing because why the fuck not? I mean yeah, he’s showing off that run because it looks like he’s showing off his butt in front of Tina to throw her off, which looks like a dirty move coming from him but at the same time, something tells me Jimmy Jr might’ve found Tina’s kryptonite and using her weakness would give him the advantage for this mile. And the way he ran like that, may have to think that his butt is sprained. Hear me out for a second cause I gonna tell why. So anyone remember what happened in “Every Which Way But Goose” when Jimmy Jr got his butt sprained when trying to re-enact a move from a movie that resulted in him being injured and was embarrassed to tell Tina that. And that when Bruce was stuck on top of the bleachers with his foot stuck on the nail all thanks to the friendship bracelet and he has to sacrifice his healing to have more injuries on his butt but for a good cause in making Tina happy. Could probably imagine he’s still sprained up to this day and by that, I mean he’s still hurting and of course, healing takes time. So that could explain that run. You know what that run almost reminded me of?
Yeah. Almost looks like they’re distant cousins at some point. Oh and it looks like the two are neck to neck as Louise, Gene, Rudy, Alex, and Courtney are reaching towards Large Tommy and reaching their destination in the first edge of the sidewalk. Finally getting on their bikes and head out to the ice cream shop in quick fashion before Mr. Frond finds out that they escaped. What could possibly go wrong during the second phase of this plan? Oh yeah…
Gene forgot to undo the lock on his bike. Resulting in him falling out from his bike, being left behind as the group head on, and make things worse, get caught by Frond and head back to do the mile. Gene...what are we going to do with you? So the plan is beginning to fall apart and the remaining four kids are now in a very tight situation now that Gene has fallen behind and head back to do the mile. They would go to Gene and get him to rejoin their group thought that would result in Louise, Rudy, Courtney, and Alex to fall into the fire as well alongside Gene on why they’re not doing the mile by Mr. Frond, but according to Courtney when looking at the phone, time is a wasting when monitoring Tommy’s track and rather than getting Gene back, they begin to head out instead. But of course, like a fallen soldier in the battlefield, they’re doing it for their fallen comrade. Also back at the Tina and Jimmy Jr race watch…
Might as well add some graphics you see when either the people or racecars are racing to see who’s in the lead and how many laps there are left in the race because it looks like things are really getting tight between these two. Ah ha…they’re endgame are they? And now we know how Starco shippers feel once they learned that they’re the only ship left in the open. And that shit was rushed.
The kids finally arrive at the ice cream shop and are about to have the experience of their lives when noticing that there’s no lines blocking their way and getting the scoops that they wanted though of course, without having Gene around. And speaking of the missing Gene Bean…
He looks like he wants to tap out but it looks like he isn’t the only person in the mile who is dead last in the entire flock where he met up with Large Tommy, who is also looking like he want to tap out but it looks like you’re not gonna find an opportunity when it comes to getting a break coming from Large Tommy and that if you think that running make your legs feel bad, stopping for a little break, even if it’s for a simple minute, it’s gonna hurt even worse than doing the run. Other countries are now asking the US what the fuck are we doing when it comes to the whole running a mile experience. And our response has to be a simple, get out of bullseye target answer…cause fuck you. No, no, something to do with everyone not being active and we really have an obesity problem going on. Thanks corporations. And poor taste buds. So if Gene’s going to have to suffer, he might as well need something to drink to at least give him some boost and what when he noticed a straw popping out and wrapped around his neck, grabs on to it, and drinks it but apparently, it’s not water as Tommy boy here stated because it’s not water that he’s carrying. Instead, it’s milk. Milk. During a mile. Water, yeah, that’s pretty much normal to carry around. Sports drinks…that’s also an option when doing a mile despite the sugar mixed into the bottle. Milk…apparently, someone took the whole “milk make your bones stronger” a bit too literal. And you’re gonna see why coming from Gene later on in the episode. Oh and Tina is still hanging on to her lead over Jimmy Jr. Just putting that out there as a little update.
Cutting over to the kids hurrying eating their ice cream as Louise asks Rudy, Alex, and Courtney to do so because the clock is ticking and they don’t want to be caught for separating from the other students. We have Rudy trying to eat the thing but kept on getting a brain freeze. Apparently, everyone is relatable to Rudy when it comes to eating ice cream too damn fast. There’s a trick in stopping it, place your thumb onto the roof of the mouth and then boom, gone. I did it whenever I eat ice cream and it works fine. Don’t take notes from the internet. To Courtney licking the cream while saying “licky, licky, licky” on a loop like a broken record. I mean yeah, Courtney seems to be enjoying her ice cream and acting like a sweet, innocent little girl enjoying her life to the fullest, but uh, might as well cut that one out since you’re pretty much annoying your friends within the radius from you. And then to Alex as he eat his scoops, seems rather bummed out. He’s bummed that his best pal isn’t around and had to endure the dreaded mile and although he’s enjoying his scoop with Louise, Rudy, and Courtney, not having Gene around makes Alex a very sad boy. You know you could like have a do-over and have Gene over and Gene alone since you seem to be bummed out, though either you or him have to pay the next time around, and then have that. You know, hang out. Just between buds. And I think you know where I’m going with this and it’s NOT the other way around, what the fuck is wrong with you people?! Y’all need some help. May whatever God you pray help your soul or whatever you have left in the soul department.
Alex isn’t alone who is bummed out that Gene didn’t make it to them to enjoy a scoop because Louise is also bummed for not having her brother around and Louise would like head back inside and get Gene a scoop, however Rudy stated that once you get your scoop, you can’t go back in for seconds. So instead of getting another cone, Louise decided to combine their scoops and put it onto one cone for Gene. Although they feel bad that they left Gene behind to do the mile, they had to do something to make it up and them combining their scoops for him, despite the backwash, it was nice for them to do that. And of course, the clock is still ticking because it looks like things are now not going in their favor and the four must hurry back to meet up with Gene and of course, without getting caught. And speaking of Gene again…
It looks like he’s about to picking up some pace as both he and Tommy now begin to run again and something tells me it may have something to do with the milk that Tommy boy here was carrying in his bag that gave him the boost. But that right there gave them as what some people is calling a “runner’s high”. And uh...think of a runner’s high like picking up some speed on your way to your destination or your data speed picking up some steam the one day you think that you have wasted your data cap on the brink to reaching towards the limit line. While that is happening, Louise, Rudy, Alex, and Courtney finally reached towards Gene and finally give the ice cream to the middle Belcher child and now must get off their bikes and rejoin the mile but it looks like Courtney, other than Gene fallen behind, has thrown a massive wrench just as they were about to reach the home stretch and make it out alive...
Here enter Courtney’s dad, Doug. Ass Hat Joe makes his return when noticing that he thinks that the cat, named Susan, has escaped because he noticed that the tracker was off. Courtney…like Gene, what are we gonna do with you? You forgot to turn your dad’s phone off or rather hide the damn thing but nope, you didn’t even freaking noticed. Yeah, so the four, alongside both Gene and Tommy, got stopped, for Ass Hat to check the beeping coming from Tommy’s backpack and then enter Frond noticing that the two stopped and fall flat on the surface, seeing Ass Hat going through the bag, and the four on their bikes. So uh…how should I put this in a way that doesn’t seem rather harsh, oh right, y’all fucking choked. If you think that even if Gene were not have a mishap in having a bike lock on his wheels, doesn’t matter, the plan would still fall apart with or without Gene with y’all. What? You think that everything would be resolved without getting caught red handed and would get a happy ending? Not happening because it would straight up ruin the resolution. I need a calmer, let’s see how Tina and Jimmy Jr are doing.
And man, 2022 looks…the same with these two going on with their race. The race is still going that it’s to the point where not even Forrest Gump can’t even beat as things are really neck and neck with these two. And things are getting heated. And heated really good as they reach the finish line and the winner for the greatest race of all of men and women between these two goes to…
It’s Tina! Tina won her race against Jimmy Jr. Oh, proud of you girl. Proud of you for beating that goat licker and pummel his ass to the ground when doing a goddamn mile and thus putting y’all’s rivalry to bed as the two made up and of course, gotta need some rest since they ran a mile. Well, Jimmy Jr needs some rest. Tina looks like she’s A-Okay following her mile. That and once the episode is done with, she pretty much collapses. So there’s that. Tina Belcher, you just won the biggest race of your life in the form of the dreaded mile, what are you going to do next?
Staring at Jimmy Jr’s butt as he is resting following that race as it looks like he’s about to collapse. Okay then. Thought Disney World would’ve been an option but that works too. The free ice cream option is still open if you two want to do that. Although it may result in you two getting rum raisin as the only topping left in the open. Talk about a consolation prize.
Back to the kids getting caught they choked on the plan, Courtney tells Ass Hat off that the cat is fine and that’s the last we’ll see the last of Ass Hat but as for Frond on the other hand, is something that the four can’t bypass and instead of lying their way out, they ended up throwing in the towel just like that in silence, causing Frond to be hopping mad over nobody doing the mile and hoping for Spoors to have the power to do a do-over for Louise, Rudy, Courtney, Alex, Gene, and Tommy for being the victim to do a mile again but they say that Frond should leave Gene out of it. As in he don’t have to bring Gene in their punishment because it’s them that they should be punished but Gene ran his butt off and should get immunity from doing the do-over. Speaking of Gene, he ran all the way to the finish line with Large Tommy and thus, the two finish their mile. So Gene is finally done with his but for Louise, Courtney, Rudy, and Alex, looks like they might going to get the do-over. By the way, Tommy boy did the mile as well, so he should get immunity as well. Don’t throw him under the bus. So that was the main plot of the episode and I got to say, this was an interesting main plot up until the resolution of the plot with Louise, Rudy, Courtney, and Alex surrendering like that. While yes, they worried for Gene and felt bad over leaving him behind...you thought knowing them, they would like leave their bikes behind midday with Louise carrying the scoop midday, the chances of them making it out alive would still be low but in the low to medium range because you would still have the tracker, which of course, would bring in Ass Hat and thus putting a wrench to the whole thing all together. So you could say that, it’s like with...you know that Infinity War meme with Thanos and a young Gamora, here’s the template if you what I’m talking about...
Yeah, they got their ice cream but in return, they got punished. Although yeah, Gene was innocent and they can’t throw him under the bus. People should probably know the saying, “those who abandon the mission are scum, but those who abandon their friend is lower than scum.” Louise, Rudy, Courtney, and Alex were put in a tight situation when Gene fell out and head back without running away to them and create more problems. While yes, they left him behind, mostly because the clock is ticking, they didn’t forget about him. They put their scoops onto Louise’s cone and try to give it to Gene when reaching towards the finishing blocks of the mile. Yeah, they choked mostly following the first domino being fallen with Gene fallen off, but you have to give them effort for trying to help the guy out. So they get a pass for that. Consider this somewhat of a life debt.
Onto the subplot we go because it looks like the kids aren’t the only ones who want things in their way because we have Bob, Linda, and Teddy looking at the TV with hearing that Bob’s favorite performing group, Cake, the people who play pattycake that somehow became a national sensation and made hamboning nothing more than a sissy technique to have in your arsenal, and Bob really want to go there to see them live over at the center but the problem with that is that…well, say if you heard that your favorite band is coming to town for a concert and you want to head over to see them and live the experience but then come you heading down to ticket sites and found out that it cost massive amounts of money per person. Welcome to the world of consumerism, kids. Might as well burn your credit or debit cards for safe keeps. And don’t even think about heading down to Craigslist. Craigslist is not and never to be your friend for cheap tickets. And no, never had the experience. Which I know all of y’all are calling bullshit but I’m keeping it a 100 here.
But the three did sensed an opportunity in getting tickets for a discount for a low, low price around late Friday Morning but they have to be on the phone for them to get the tickets to the event. And I think we all know where this is going come, not the next scene though…
Yeah, nice to see Bob going at it with him talking to inanimate objects as he prepares for the big day in trying to score some tickets alongside both Linda and Teddy to watch some Cake in action. Talking about the next, next scene which is of course, the big day where Bob, Linda, and Teddy now entering scoring ticket mode with their phones in use and hoping for either one of the three individuals with their phone to be that lucky son of a gun.
The three try to get the perfect shot with the call as they go on with their normal day but it’s like each and every time they tried to their usual business like they would do whether if its Bob behind the grill or Linda manning the booth or Teddy just sitting there even though he should be doing his handyman work, for a brief second, possibly a nanosecond, there would be a call from the place and of course, nothing. It’s like waiting for an update for a show you like and hoping if there’s any updates for like an upcoming episode or a new season and thought that today would be that day you finally get some info, nothing. From no calls to hanged up calls to putting them on hold to Teddy trying to get a signal for his phone by standing near someone’s food on the table, disrupting her lunch. Yeah, not a pleasant experience for that lady eating her food when having a guy who happened to a regular almost stepping on your food.
So Linda became the lucky person out of the three that got the call but it looks like things aren’t going towards their favor because when Linda got the call from place, she got word that the tickets has sold out, thus putting Bob in a somber mood and depressed with the tickets no longer available, he can’t see his show on stage. And yeah, you could say that this subplot is nothing, if not, a little more in the of a potential waste time since people already know that Bob isn’t going to get his tickets, okay, that seems like something you probably don’t want to say, but it may end up being that way and we already know how it ended with a silver lining when it comes to the quest for the tickets and of course, got to see his favorite show. But there is a silver lining, for me, don’t know about y’all though I think there’s different opinions on what I’m about to say. So when Bob heard that the tickets has sold out, Linda tries to cheer him up and for Teddy going all, “Well, at least we tried to score some tickets. There’s always next time, huh Bobby?” And this is where my thoughts on the subplot may have changed from going nowhere to going nowhere but at least there’s a moment that made me lmao.
And that is Bob calling Teddy out over not getting the tickets. Blaming him for not charging the phone enough. Blaming for having his phone at 23% of battery life in the middle of the day. Blaming him for not replacing his phone. Calling out his bullshit. Because this season alone, every time Teddy gets Bob to do something or caused him to make him have a problem whether if it’s taking care of a just born baby rat and had to hid it from Hugo to having a chicken in hopes to lay a fresh egg but wait until the end of the episode for that to happen, scaring away agoraphobic lady even though that was all Linda as well, him talking that caused him to have the yips, to now this. You look at his face when glaring at Teddy following not getting the tickets. It looks like he’s ready to murder the guy for everything he caused for this season. Might as well put him in a full season suspension. And their argument of course, got Teddy to exit stage left…for a few scenes in the episode.
With Bob tries to apologize to Teddy for that little argument over blaming him for everything but Teddy tries to apologize for upsetting him but ending up interrupting the guy from apologizing to him and thus about to exit out yet again, back to the truck he go or so he would do as Bob now can apologize to him for creating a scene like that and Teddy here found a silver lining because the day is not totally over with because when he finally got his phone charged to 100%, he got a voice mail from someone in the center that they can set aside two seats for Bob and possibly Linda…yeah, Linda, to enjoy the show. Of course, he has to call within the next five minutes to score the tickets. And of course, Teddy ends up creating a conversation as he tries to score the tickets for his friend over there. And Teddy ends up losing contact, mostly thanks to his phone, and now wants Bob’s phone and that’s the last time we’ll see Teddy in this series…nah, he’ll be back next week and as for Bob, if look at the end credits, he did attend the show and of course, have a great night…despite before finding out that Louise has to redo the mile alongside with Rudy, Courtney, and Alex while both Gene and Tina has to rest for the weekend for doing the goddamn mile. So the subplot is meh, not in the point of bland and boring because I did have a laugh over Bob getting mad at Teddy and calling him out, the rest of it seems rather dull. But of course, silver lining when it comes to any moment you can find in this subplot as Bob want to get the tickets. Surprise that they didn’t make it into a Bob birthday subplot since we’re mostly at this time around you would see an episode like that like with Season 7 with “The Laser-inth” and with Season 8 with “Are You There Bob? It’s Me Birthday” but it looks that’s happening this time around.
So all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? This was an interesting episode, if not, a good episode, mostly coming from the main plot and somewhat coming from the subplot all thanks to that one moment from Bob calling Teddy out. I enjoyed it...up until the final five minutes of the episode with both the main plot with the kids being caught despite that both Gene and Tommy finally ran towards the finish line and of course, the whole thing with Teddy. Oh sweet Christ, Teddy. What are we going to do with you?
Glad to see Alex again and of course, now as the newest member of the Belcher kids’ group of friends, and of course, gonna say and gonna say it again, love his friendship with Gene in this one and of course, gotta give that shout out to that hug when Gene helps Alex bury his fear of screwing things up, even though yeah, this is coming from Alex, the person who planned for months on running away and executed the whole damn thing on sleepover night only for the plan to fall apart and for Gene to save him by getting him, with the help of Louise and Tina, to get him back home. Like, imagine that being a life debt and Gene already payed his debt and now Alex has to do the same now, thus to this episode alongside Louise, Rudy, and Courtney. And he even seemed bummed out with not having Gene around. Like dude, again, the option is still on the table. Hang out with Gene to get a scoop, just the two of you, don’t have Courtney, don’t have Rudy, don’t have either Louise and Tina, have money on you, and hang out while eat a scoop. Might as well leave that idea to the fanfiction writers to make that idea into reality in fanfic mode.
Was hoping for this episode to have the GAC Pack in massive play, first episode since the formation of the pack at the end of the Roller episode, and thought that this episode would put these three have their somewhat of a formation executed like in let’s say if the episode would’ve been like it’s the same concept but everything has to be put in the hands of the students who are going to be holding everyone back, of course both Tommy and Rudy has to be in line as well, it would lead up to Gene, Courtney, and Alex to do the mile or something like that. Could be that or you would bring in a bullshit idea of “Oh, if you don’t do the mile, this will hold like almost half of your grade and could be heading towards summer school bleh.” But yeah, though that you would see the three-way friendship in full play in this episode, but seeing this episode and of course, that little hug there, yeah, although it’s not a full episode with these three being buddy, buddy, even though it’s not fully enough, might as well take that than have nothing. Season 10, don’t fail me now.
The Tina and Jimmy Jr race something all right and somehow, it was interesting to watch seeing these two going at it to see who can make out on top when doing the mile though by the end of the day, Tina reign supreme over Jimmy Jr. Their run pretty much sold that to everyone. Tina’s run, yeah, it’s pretty much the Naruto run. I’m sure almost everyone done that when they were running. I done that. Though I was told to run normal. The fuck man? The fuck? Jimmy Jr’s run on the other, yeah...still going on the limb and say that he’s still recovering from that butt sprain. You thought that he would like be benched because he’s still recovering but...yeah, squidly diddley. Straight up squidly diddley and forgot about the thing even though it was never brought up.
Yeah, the kids pretty much choked and brought them to themselves just as they were about to head to the home stretch, the plan ends up fallen apart with both Ass Hat Joe, who was supposed to be dead, and of course, Mr. Frond. Though got to hand it to the four to somewhat sacrifice their freedom, or rather, telling Frond to not throw Gene under the bus since he ran his butt off following being fell off his bike. And you could also Tommy for pushing Gene’s self-esteem when doing the mile. That was somewhat surprising coming from a lesser known character that was introduced way too long ago all the way back to Season 1.
The subplot of the episode seems rather, not dull, not bland, you already know where this is going but there is a silver lining when it comes to this subplot and saving itself from being deemed as a dull one and that is of course, Bob calling Teddy out following him not able to get tickets thanks to him not fully charging his phone, thus dashing his chances of going to the show. Although Bob seems a bit overdramatic over the whole thing, let’s face it, everything this season coming from Teddy goes wrong for Bob. So for once, Bob would like call him out for everything he has caused this season. But of course, things get patched up and of course, Bob got to see his show by the end credits. The rest of the subplot on the other hand, seems like it was going nowhere in my point but that’s up for you to make your own opinion.
So all and all, it was a good run, get it? Cause run, mile...good run of the episode up until the final five minutes of the episode. Nice to see Alex again in this episode. So does Courtney. Was hoping for it to be a GAC pack episode but we can take that brief moment with the hug instead. The Tina and Jimmy Jr run pretty much wipe away the flaws from the episode, that was something and interesting to see the two people who run like a pack of wild animals. And of course, the subplot…yeah, it was going nowhere but at least Bob got a happy ending and of course, got a laugh with Bob calling Teddy out for all his BS. So other than that, it was a good episode till it goes downhill for the final five minutes but you’ll watch that for yourselves. So I’ll give “The Gene Mile”…
An 8.5 out of 10. But of course, that’s my opinion and now, I want to hear yours. Tell me what you think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Do you think the subplot would’ve do a little better? Do you think that the GAC Pack should’ve gotten their own episode in this one? Tell that and more in the comments down below and now, we’re down to two. Tune in on May 5 as Linda tries to play nice with the leader of the town’s PTA chapter when joining the board as Bob, Teddy, and the kids help a hardware store owner who was coping over a loss of his parrot in the twenty-first episode of the ninth season, “PTA It Ain’t So”.
