Unless you didn't watch the news or check Social Media, Ukraine is in crisis. First, we have the protests in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The protests started when the Parliament rejected the invitation of Ukraine joining the European Union, which leads into violent protests.
6-7 people died, more than 1180 people injured, 70 were arrested in the protesters side. 163 police officers injured. That's protest number 1. Protest number 2, a month later, the protesters want Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych out of power and change the constitution.
This protest lasted for 5 days, turning Kiev into a warzone. During the protests, the Parliament voted Yanukovych out, but Yanukovych escaped before the ousted of presidency in the Ukrainian government. Days later, A deal has been made. The constitution of 2004 that ended in 2010 has to be restored and the elections will take place later this year. As for Yanukovych, he ran away to Russia.
So far, the crisis is not ending, in the southern most part of the Ukraine, in Crimea, problems are brewing. Protests are arising. Of course, Crimea's population are half Russian and Half Ukrainian, correct me if I'm wrong.
Russian President Vladimir Putin sends Russian Troops to Crimea, which angers the UN and the US. Which is weird, it almost sounds like we're entering another Cold War. Here's a brief History Lesson...
History Lesson 101
The Cold War lasted from 1945-1991, about 46 years since the End of World War II. The United States just became a Superpower after Japan's surrender. So it's between the US and the USSR (now Russia). And things went bad, even though there's no war, it almost destroy the entire world. The Arms Race, Space Race, Korean War, Vietnam War, Berlin Wall, there's a lot of events. After the USSR collapse, the Cold War is over.
So far, this is turning into a major problem in the world right now. With the elections coming up, there's now a poll on their election counters, "Will Crimea Leave Ukraine?" It's a tough choice, and let's face it, this is turning into an conflict without end. So we have to stay tuned for further updates.
